Michel Portal - Minneapolis

El veterano multi-instrumentista francés Michel Portal (en este álbum toca saxos soprano y alto, clarinete bajo y bandoneón) mixtura intereses por demás diversos en Minneapolis, incorporando jazz, funk, rap, tango, pero sin preparar un pastiche.

El resultado es muy atrayente, salvo que debido a la extensa duración del disco compacto (supera los setenta y dos minutos), la atención puesta en la escucha se puede resentir un poco hacia el final.

A la par de Portal (luce en soprano en The Squirrel and the Loons y en alto en The Talking Bag (Twins in the City)), se distingue la sección rítmica de puro jazz-rock: Sonny Thompson en bajo eléctrico y Michael Bland en batería (escuchar Domimonk y Shopping for Black Shirts); mientras que la estelar presencia del guitarrista Vernon Reid (Living Colour) es más bien modesta; y Tony Hymas en teclados completa el grupo.

Se destaca la influencia del tango (vía Piazzolla) en: Judy Garland (con Portal en clarinete bajo) y Cinco de la tarde (en bandoneón).****
