Pat Metheny - Secret Story



Secret Story es la consumación de la visión musical de Pat Metheny, donde confluyen jazz, folk, ritmos de diversas latitudes (en particular brasileros), incluyendo en este álbum la adaptación de un himno camboyano (Above the Treetops).
Extraña que no sea un proyecto junto a su popular agrupación, el Pat Metheny Group, sino un esfuerzo en solitario.
Metheny toca guitarras, bajo, piano, teclados, y se acompaña de una pléyade de exquisitos intérpretes (vrg., Toots Thielemans aportando un memorable solo de harmónica en la entrañable balada Always and Forever; Mark Ledford su hermosa voz en la exótica Finding and Believing, Gil Goldstein un arrabalero acordeón en la exquisita Antonia).
Las composiciones son bellísimas: unas, representativas del temprano Pat Metheny Group, descriptivas de paisajes rurales, contagian optimismo, esperanza, júbilo, regocijo (Facing West, The Longest Summer); otras, animadas de un espíritu trashumante, nos invitan a recorrer locaciones de ensueño a través del mundo (Above The Treetops, Finding and Believing, See The World); las hay leves, suaves, delicadas (Rain River); con un cierto matiz naïf (As a Flower Blossoms (I Am Running to You)); mientras que algunas son simplemente conmovedoras (Always and Forever, Antonia, The Truth Will Always Be).
Secret Story es el relato de una gesta, de una épica fantástica, reseñada en un diario de viaje, una bitácora de una aventura, donde Metheny parece dispuesto a contar sus vivencias, algo íntimo, profundo, experiencias que entrañan un proceso vital de maduración, individual y creativo.
El clímax tiene lugar en The Truth Will Always Be, una composición que se desarrolla in crescendo hasta el típico solo de guitarra sintetizada monumental, dramático, apoteósico, explosivo, catártico.
Cerca del final del itinerario, es el momento de una introspectiva, evocativa Tell Her You Saw Me; y a modo de epílogo, convenientemente orquestal, Not To Be Forgotten (Our Final Our).
Una música llena de lirismo, poesía, sensibilidad, magia.
